Live.com for Recruiters
Not only is that the name of this article but it is also the name of a new book by Master Cybersleuth and sourcing industry trailblazer, Shally Steckerl (co-authored by none other than yours truly) of JobMachine.net that hits the street in the next week or so. This book is over 60 pages packed with tips, tricks, and little-known techniques for both passive candidate resume and name generation using the increasingly popular search engine,
live.com by MSN (www.live.com). The techniques are laid out in an easy to read and understand format, using a step-by-step method of instruction; beginner, intermediate, more advanced--there's something for everyone here.
The book starts out with a nice overview of the finer points of the search engine, along with the ideal ways of setting up the live.com options to make your searching experience more enjoyable. There is also a definitions section that explains, up front, all the different types of searches that will be explained later in the book.
There is a large section on passive candidate resume generation using many of the advanced commands live.com supports including inbody, inurl, and intitle but also shows you how to perform "site" searches and look for resume templates.
DID YOU KNOW you could find resumes created from resume creation programs. Try this in the live.com search box:

From the Desk of Just J Do your pets have a microchip?
It was a cold and stormy Friday night and my eight-year-old Dalmatian, Finnegan, came down with a bad case of hives. Her "spots" had "spots", literally!
Luckily, I live very close to a 24-hour emergency pet clinic. We went right in and they took her into the hospital area to give her a shot and stop the reaction, while I was in the waiting room.
As I was flipping through the latest edition of US Weekly (gotta have my Britney fix), two women hustled in with a crying cat in a carrier. I heard the women explaining that it wasn't their cat, but it had been hit by a car and was suffering in the rain. They brought it in right away.
Nurses whisked the cat away immediately to see if it had a microchip, a tiny
computer chip, which has an identification number programmed into it, in order to locate its owners. We all sat there hoping the owners had a microchip placed into the injured animal. Minutes felt like hours.
Several moments later, a nurse appeared and told the women the cat did not contain a microchip. They wrote a check out for as much money as they could and left.
After Finnegan was given back to me, already a bit less "pouffe", I went to the cashier to pay and ask what I could contribute in order to help with the cat's injuries.
"Unfortunately, this situation happens all the time. If cats don't have microchips and aren't reported missing, there's nothing we can do. We made her as comfortable as possible. She's in a better place now."
It is estimated one in three pets will go missing. Please, next time you're at your vets, ask them about microchips. They are harmless and a potential lifesaver.
